The Town of Birch Creek is located in north central Chippewa County, Wisconsin. All of the residents of the Town of Birch Creek use the Holcombe post office for their mailing addresses of Holcombe, Wisconsin, 54745.
The Town of Birch Creek is rural in character with forested and agricultural land occupying approximately 68 and 11 percent of the total land area respectively.
Much of the Town is heavily wooded. Wetlands, including forested wetlands, cover about 15 percent of the Town. Open water pretty much covers the remaining 6 percent of the area of the Town.
This diversity of natural attributes and rural character is a desirable setting in which to live and enjoy life. It is a favorite place to take advantage of all types of outdoor recreation. From camping to fishing to ATV/UTV trails, boating, horseback riding, and snowmobiling. There are several bars and restaurants to enjoy a great meal of Prime rib, a fish fry, homemade pizza or a cold refreshing drink.
County Highway M, running west and east, County Highway E running north and south, and County Highway CC in the southeastern part of the Town are the major highway routes in the Town. In addition, 42 miles of town roads provide other components of the transportation system.
The topography of the town is generally gently rolling. In the eastern part of the town, streams flow to the Chippewa River and Lake Holcombe, a flowage of the Chippewa and Jump Rivers. The Chippewa River and Lake Holcombe border the eastern edge of the town. Streams in the northern part of the town flow north to the Chippewa River. Numerous creeks and low-lying areas also combine to form an extensive network of wetlands. There is a glacial moraine area in the southeast corner of the town that contains many kettle lakes. Flambeau Ridge, in the north central part of the town is quartzite monadnock 1535 feet above sea level, and the town’s most prominent geologic feature.
